ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

This Ugandan coffee is superbly balanced and full of all the flavors one would expect from an East African natural process. Expect notes of earthy, jammy fig, rich berry compote, and a delicate rosewater finish.

The new year has arrived, and with it, an origin we’ve yet to source from! We’ve been keeping an eye on arrivals from East Africa, and as we’ve sampled dozens of coffees from the region, we’ve been on the lookout for a worthy entry to kick off 2026. Grown in the Rwenzori mountains of Uganda, this offering is a blend of many common cultivars that flourish in the lofty heights of the eastern African mountain ranges. Since the formation of the Ugandan Coffee Development Authority in 1991, coffee exports have climbed considerably year after year, and in 2025, a landmark change occurred in the African coffee industry, as Uganda surpassed Ethiopia for the first time in history as the highest volume coffee exporting country in Africa. It is important to note, however, that the coffee producers of Uganda have primarily developed a reputation for crafting world-class robusta, with the cultivation of arabica only representing roughly twenty percent of total coffee exports. That number is shifting, though, as more producers have begun to try their luck in the arabica market to great success. This lot is composed of coffees contributed by smallholder farmers who grow coffee as a cash crop alongside their own family garden plots. Producers bring their cherries to their local processing station, and then it is left to dry in the fruit for a number of weeks, imparting a pleasant and balanced winey fermentation to the flavor profile. We hope you’ll try this one out and see what the hype around Ugandan arabica is all about. Cheers to the new year!

Other things that impact a coffee’s flavor include where the coffee is grown, how the fruit is processed, how the seed is dried, how well the coffee is sorted, how the coffee is roasted, and lastly how you brew it.
