ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

This Peruvian natural from the El Palto Cooperative is so easy to drink, with notes of jammy berry, soft spice reminiscent of clove, with a rich, chocolatey finish.

It’s been two years since we last sourced a coffee from the El Palto Cooperative in the Amazonas highlands of Northern Peru, but this crop year was another one we couldn't pass up. El Palto is one of a great many smallholder cooperatives in Peru’s coffee country. Originally founded in 2003 by a small cohort of 35 farmers, membership has since swelled to 189 members. The coffee farms in this part of the country are very biodiverse, as many of the smallholder producers grow what coffee they can as a cash crop, alongside their own family garden plots. This lot is a blend of many different cultivars that grow well in the highlands of Peru, and this makes for a dynamic and interesting brew with fresh, effervescent fruity acidity and complex baking spice with a strong floral and chocolatey finish. This coffee is perfect for people who love a consistent, yet adventurous cup of coffee that is endlessly drinkable, a wonderful option for the weekend warriors in our community. We’re excited to have this coffee in our lineup for the next few months as we enter the spring and summer months.

Other things that impact a coffee’s flavor include where the coffee is grown, how the fruit is processed, how the seed is dried, how well the coffee is sorted, how the coffee is roasted, and lastly how you brew it.
