Every once in a while, you find a coffee that brings you back to the first time you drank coffee from that origin, and you remember how it blew you away. This is one of those coffees.
Each year, we work with our sourcing partners to find a true top lot of exceptional peaberry coffee from Kenya. This year, our friends at Crop to Cup delivered that dream. Normally, when you’re looking for high quality Kenyan coffees, one might go to the central highlands of Nyeri county, where indeed there is a thriving specialty coffee producing scene. But Crop to Cup prefers the less traveled paths, and are always looking to champion the lesser known areas and producers of exceptional coffee. This coffee was grown in the village of Chwele in western county of Bungoma, situated in the Rift Valley, by a community of small-holder farmers.
In the nose, aromas don’t disappoint. The aroma of gummy peach rings usually is the first fleeting aroma that escapes every time you open the bag of beans. As you grind the coffee this aroma intensifies and opens up with notes of dark fruits, tamarind, bergamot, and floral spices. In the brew, a crisp acidity and jammy sweetness, with a lingering warm spice finish. This is a coffee for people who like punchy flavor. Enjoy now through January 2020.
