During the springtime months, we take a break from Kenya, and offer in it's place a sweet and lively coffee from the small East African country of Burundi. This year's lot was grown by the community of small farmers known as Cumba of the Tangara commune in Ngozi province. For those of you who have never had a coffee from this emerging coffee producing country before, you're in for a treat. We often describe the cup profile of Burundi to be Kenyan-like in overall flavor, but its as if you turned down the intensity of acidity a bit, and cranked up the sweetness. In the cup look for notes of pomelo, red currant, and oolong tea, The cup has a dense date sugar sweetness, with a refreshing citric acidity.
